BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- Two Cadets notch double-doubles to push Army West Point women's basketball to the 74-71 road win over LIU, on Wednesday night, extending the team's winning streak to four games.
Sabria Hunter led the Black Knights with 24 points and 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Hope Brown notched her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, securing a key rebound in the final seconds of the game. Trinity Hardy scored 10 points for the team while dishing out a season-high of six assists. Off the bench, Kamyrn Hall scored 12 points while ripping down four rebounds. Natalie Rhine made her first career start scoring eight points for the team.
How It Happened
The Black Knights had trouble in the opening minutes of the game while LIU found its momentum going on a 9-0 scoring run in the first five minutes of the game. Rhine hit a pull up jumper to end Army's scoring drought. Rhine was the leader on the scoring front in the first quarter, adding on two three in the final two and a half minutes. LIU was able to keep its offensive momentum scoring, shooting 47 percent from the floor for 11 more points to lead Army 20-13 after ten minutes.
Army came alive in the second quarter scoring 21 points while holding LIU to 10. Hunter caught fire in the second, scoring eight points with three rebounds and one steal. She went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Midway through the quarter, Hall hit a three to take the lead over LIU. The Sharks fought back but could not keep up with Army as they shot 87 percent from the floor. The Black Knights had a two-point lead heading into the half, 54-52.
The Sharks caught momentum early in. the third out scoring Army in the first few minutes, 11-7, to tie things up at 41-41. Hunter led Army's attack in the third with nine points and secured five rebounds for the squad. Hall hit key shots for the team as well. In the final minute Hall drove and dished to Hunter on the elbow for a jump to help Army keep the lead heading into the final ten minutes (54-52).
Army hit a rut at the start of the quarter, allowing LIU to get hot on a 6-0 scoring run in the first two minutes (58-54 LIU). Hall hit a jumper for Army's first points of the quarter. Hardy came up big with a three and followed with her sixth dish of the night to Hunter on the block on the next possession to put Army up 63-60. Fouls hurt the Black Knights in the fourth, giving the Sharks scoring opportunities at the free throw line. With 30 seconds left in the game, Hall found a path to the basket for two points, pushing Army to a one-point lead (72-71). Brown shut the door on LIU's comeback as she. came up big with a defensive board in final seconds for her tenth rebound of the game while also securing the Black Knights' 74-71 win over the Sharks.
