Jacob Suppiah Named Patriot League Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Army West Point Men's Soccer Senior Captain, Jacob Suppiah, has been named the Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Suppiah is the eighth Cadet in program history to earn the academic distinction. Teammate, Luke Doyle, joined Suppiah on the Patriot League All-Academic Team
Suppiah emerged as the team's primary goalkeeper for the 2021 season after a breakout season as a junior. The Memphis, Tenn. native has started 13 games in yet for the Cadets this year, leading the team to a 6 wins and a tie while between the posts. His four shutouts place him fourth in the league while GAA of 1.35 is good for fifth in the conference. The Firstie also ranks in the top 10 in saves (44 - 8th) and save percentage (.710 - 7th).
Cadet Suppiah, member of Company F3, is an exemplary leader both on and off the soccer field. In the classroom, Suppiah excels. With a 3.964 CQPA as a space science major and nuclear science minor, Suppiah has been on the Dean's List every semester at the Academy since his plebe year and achieved over a 4.000 TQPA in both 2020-1 and 2020-2. Additionally, Suppiah has received Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every season, as well as Academic All-Patriot League Honors in 2019.In addition to his academic pursuits, Suppiah is a leader within the Corps as the 2BN, 3REG XO this semester.
Along with the Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition, Suppiah landed on the Patriot League All-Academic Team along with teammate Luke Doyle. Both Cadets finished with CQPA's above the 3.9 mark placing them in the top 10-percent of their respective classes.
Luke Doyle has been a rock for the Army defense this season, contributing to a back line that has allowed only 1.35 goals per game, a mark that ranks fourth in the Patriot League. The junior defender has played 1139 minutes to lead the team in minutes per game.
