Colin Bilek Earns AHA Player of the Month Award
November 30, 2021 | Hockey
WINTHROP, Mass. - After leading his team to a seven-point month in conference play, Army West Point hockey captain, Colin Bilek, was named the Atlantic Hockey Association's Player of the Month for November. The senior right wing scored four times and recorded two assists across five games this month to lead the team in points and goals. This is the third monthly honor of Bilek's career and the second of the season for Army hockey after Gavin Abric was awarded the AHA Goalie of the Month title in October.Â
"It's humbling to be recognized by the league but credit goes to this team." said Bilek. "We have ridden some highs and lows throughout the beginning of this season and this group is just looking forward to getting back after it on Thursday and putting ourselves in a position to start stringing games together again."Â
"Colin has had a very productive month and he's very deserving of this recognition. He has a work ethic that is second to none so it's very rearding seeing him have success on the ice." said Army Head Hockey Coach, Brian Riley.Â
The Michigan native sprung out of the gates in November, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist against Yale (Nov. 12)Â for his second career hat trick. Bilek was also the first Cadet since Brendan Soucie in 2018 to score a power-play, short-handed and game-winning goal all in the same night after he accomplished the feat against the Bulldogs.Â
The senior forward followed up his hat trick by helping the Black Knights secure four points in the weekend series with NIagara (Nov. 19-20). Down 3-1 going into the third period, Bilek was on the ice to help the Cadets score two power-play goals in the final 20 minutes to force an overtime and collect a point. In the Saturday matchup, Bilek once again found the back of the net to help direct Army to a 4-1 win over the Purple Eagles.Â
The Black Knights AHA leading penalty kill team has also benefited from Bilek's strong play. The senior has been eating up minutes on a penalty kill unit that allowed only three goals all month long. Bilek has blocked five shots while serving on the PK team on the defensive end of the ice.Â
The Black Knights will host the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Thursday, December 2 at 7:05 p.m.
