WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the third time this season, Army West Point Swimming & Diving's Evan Zhang and Daniel Alaimo have swept the men's weekly Patriot League honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Following the team's action at its midseason meet, the NC State Invite, Zhang was tabbed Swimmer of the Week while Alaimo collected Diver of the Week accolades. The duo helped the Cadets achieve a seventh-place finish at the competition, which featured some of the nation's top programs.
Zhang was the only Army swimmer to pick up two top-10 finishes at the meet, doing so in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. The senior swam to an eighth-place finish in the 100 Breast, touching the wall in 54.36, which was good for an NCAA B Cut. He then placed 10th in the 200-yard race with another NCAA B Cut standard of 1:57.13.
On the boards, Alaimo led the Black Knights once again after advancing to the finals in both the 1m and 3m dive. His best finish was in the 1m event, which saw him place fifth with a score of 321.60. The senior additionally had success on the 3m board, where his score of 336.40 landed him sixth overall.
In addition to Zhang and Alaimo, Meghan Cole also earned recognition from the Patriot League as she earned an honorable mention nod. The rookie had an outstanding meet in Greensboro, breaking the program's record in the 200 IM (2:02.33) and finishing in the top-20 in both the 100 Fly (11th, 54.61) and the 200 Fly (18th, 2:00.47).
