Black Knights Fall in NIRA National Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. --- Army West Point women's rugby (7-3) was unable to complete the second half comeback and dropped the match 28-18 to top-seeded Dartmouth (9-0) in the NIRA National Championships on Saturday night at the Anderson Rugby Complex.

The Black Knights had a slow start at the start of the match, playing defense for most of the first half as Dartmouth's defense dominated possession. Army made a late second half push scoring three tries, but it wasn't enough to match Dartmouth's offense.

How It happened

Dartmouth's offense had control of possession at the start of the match, finding its way to the try zone first. Big Green quickly made its way back to the try zone to up the lead to 14-0. Army push its way down the pitch to get to within yards of the try zone. Dartmouth was called for a foul and Codi Butt was up to take the kick. She kicked it through the uprights to get the first points on the board cutting Dartmouth's lead to 14-3.

At the start of the second half Dartmouth scored another try and conversion to make the score 21-3. Army's offense dug its heals in to start the late push. Molly Murtagh plowed her way pass the try line for the Black Knights first try of the match to try, 21-8.

In the 17^th minute of the second half, Butt continued the charge for Army. She made her way through Dartmouth's line to score the second try for Army. She followed up with a conversion to make the score 21-13. Dartmouth fought back and broke through to put another try and conversion on the board.

Sydney Schaaf rallied to convert one last try for the Black Knights, but it wasn't enough as the clock ran out. Dartmouth won the match 28-18.
