Zhang, Alaimo Receive Weekly Patriot League Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time this season, the Army West Point swimming & diving duo of Evan Zhang and Daniel Alaimo have swept the weekly men's awards from the Patriot League. Zhang was named Swimmer of the Week, while Alaimo collected Diver of the Week accolades.
The recognition comes on the heels of a weekend that saw that Black Knights compete against a top-10 team from a season ago in the Virginia Cavaliers. Though Army suffered a 186-94 loss, numerous Cadets posted season-best times throughout the meet while on the road in Charlottesville.
Zhang led the team with a pair of first-place finishes in the competition against the Cavaliers, taking home both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. Along with swimming season-best times in both races, he bested the field in the 200 Breast by nearly 10 full seconds to pick up a dominant win.
On the boards, Alaimo led the Cadets with top finishes on both the 1- and 3-meter boards. The reigning Diver of the Week captured the 3M event with a score of 348.00 and finished second on the 1M board (292.35). The junior has yet to finish lower than second place in a diving event so far this season.
Along with the aforementioned laurels, Army's Melinda Zhang received an honorable mention nod in the weekly awards announcement. The sophomore swam a season-best time of 2:03.26 in the 200 Fly, which was good for a third-place finish against the reigning national champions.
Following the meet at Virginia, the Black Knights will enjoy a few weeks of rest before heading to the NC State Invite, Nov. 18-20. The mid-season meet, which will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C., will feature some of the top programs in the country.
