The Black Knights were represented by 34 total entrants in the tournament, which featured numerous ranked competitors. Along with the two Hammer Award winners, eight different Cadets won their brackets: Dominic Carone (133B), Thomas Deck (141B), Matthew Williams (149B), Nate Lukez (157B), Kenneth Kiser (157E), Dalton Harkins (165C), Dominic Falcone (174D) and Eric Keosseian (285C).
The victories were career-firsts for freshmen Kiser, Harkins and Falcone.
A returning NCAA qualifier from last year, Ogunsanya got to work quickly in his first competition of the season. The team captain earned a win via major decision in his opening round, defeating Lehigh's Jimmy Hoffman 14-5, before pinning Lane Stigall of Oregon State in the second round (3:56). He then closed out his day with a close, 6-3 victory over Corbyn Munson of Central Michigan to earn the Hammer Award.
Laughlin opened up the action in the top pool at 184 lbs. with a dominant victory over Zach Brown (VMI), as he pinned his competitor at the 4:11 mark. After defeating Lehigh's Austin Burkhart in round two (8-2), he emerged victorious from the championship round with a hard-fought, 3-2 result over Charles Small from Hofstra.
Throughout the day, Army acquired 25 bonus point wins with 14 falls, nine major decisions and a pair of technical falls.

"A good showing from a few individuals today. Certainly [P.J.] Ogunsanya continued to be the leader on the mat for this team and he looked dominant today. It was really nice to see Brad Laughlin have a little bit of a breakthrough and win a tough college tournament. He's incredibly talented, works really hard, and this should help his confidence as he moves forward. Overall [this was] a decent start, but I felt like we left way too many points on the mat today and we definitely have to clean up several areas in our wrestling and continue to get better. What's Next
With their season-opening tournament in the books, the Black Knights will now turn their attention towards an upcoming dual against No. 2 Penn State on Thursday, Nov. 18. Army is set to face off against the Nittany Lions at 7 p.m. in a match that will be broadcasted on B1G+ ($).
