Rifle Shoots Second Place in Army Tri-Match

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Hinged on the performances of three Black Knight personal bests, Army placed second in the home opener tri-match against Texas Christian University and the University of Akron.Ā
TCU edged a top placement, shooting a 4727 aggregate (2345 SmallBore / 2382 Air Rifle) with Army falling only 43 short, led by a Cadet top-3 shootingĀ performance by Senior Lauren McMahanĀ (1181). Saturday also saw air rifle career-bests byĀ Abigail Logan (581) and Spencer Gillis (580) to help secure a team placement above Akron, where only a 15-point differential separated the two schools. Army shot 4684 with Akron posting a 4669 score, respectively.Ā
"I'm really happy to see my training come together in a match today, I'm happy with my performance but I know that I have room to improve", said McMahan.Ā Sophomore Claudia SigelĀ shot a personal best 1177 aggregate scoreĀ to find two Black Knights featured in the day's top five performances at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.Ā
Army's 4684Ā aggregate score posts as a season-high, following a first-match 4627 total score to open the season against Nebraska.Ā Ā "What I've been working on this week came together and it was nice to see progress. The teams positive environment really helped push me to give it my all", said Sigel. Ā
Heading into a matchup against Air Force next weekend, Rifle Head Coach Web Wright feels Saturday's tri-match bolstered good momentum for the Cadets.Ā "We have some things to work on this week to get ready to the All Academy Championship at Air Force. But I think we are in a good place and definitely have some positive momentum", said Wright.Ā
The Black Knights will head to Colorado Springs next weekend to take on Air Force at the Air Force Academy. TheĀ action slated for Nov. 6-7Ā will lead off with The President's Trophy Match on the line.Ā
