Army Falls on the Road to Holy Cross

WORCESTER, MASS. – Army women's basketball fell on the road, 61-42, to Holy Cross in the second game of a home-and-home series Sunday afternoon inside Hart Center Arena.Â

The game was the second matchup between Army head coach Dave Magarity and his daughter, Maureen Magarity, who is in her first season at the helm of the Holy Cross program. Army will get a chance to even the score with the Crusaders as the two will have another home-and-home series on the weekend of Feb 6-7.

Alisa Fallon and Natalie Stralkus each finished with 15 points. Fallon was 5-of-11 from the field and knocked down a pair of 3-balls. All 15 of Stralkus' points came in the second half. The junior from New Brunswick was 6-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-7 from 3-point range.

Cara McCormack and Addisyn Cross led the Holy Cross efforts with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Â

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- This was Fallon's seventh double-digit scoring effort of the season and the 28th of her career.
- Fallon was one board shy of a double-double, finishing with a team-high nine.
- Stralkus scored in double figures for the fourth time this season and the 12th time of the season.
- Sarah Bohn dished out five assists to improve her season total to 28.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- Holy Cross jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
- The biggest lead for the Crusaders was six points as they were down 9-3 with 6:07 left.
- After going down 9-3 with 6:07 left, Army managed to tie the game up at 9-9 by the 2:20 mark.
- Fallon scored six of the nine points in the quarter for the Black Knights on a pair of treys.
- The Black Knights were hampered by 11 turnovers in the first quarter, but Holy Cross had 8 of its own.
Second Quarter
- Sullivan tied the game up at 11-11 with 9:23 left.
- Back-to-back triples by Holy Cross gave the Crusaders a 17-11 lead with 6:39 left in the first half. Â
- The Black Knights scored the final five points of the second quarter, with two free throws by Fallon and then a Kaci Helmick trey with 1:07 left to pull the Cadets within three, 23-20.
- Had five fast-break points in the second quarter.
- Fallon led the way with 10 points at the half.
Third Quarter
- Bohn opened the half with a layup, which pulled the Black Knights within one, 23-22.
- Holy Cross went on a 10-0 run to extend its lead to 11 points.
- With 4:24 left in the quarter, Fallon broke the scoring drought with a layup to make it 33-24, Holy Cross.
- Holy Cross extended its lead to 39-24 by the 2:05 mark.
- Stralkus drilled back-to-back threes on consecutive possessions, her first baskets of the day, to make it 41-30 HC with 23 seconds left.
- Â Avery LaBarbera for Holy Cross completed a three-point play with a layup plus made free throw with three seconds left.
Fourth Quarter
- Holy Cross went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter, including back-to-back 3-pointers to make it a 52-30 lead for Holy Cross.
- Stralkus took things into her own hands, scoring seven straight points for the Black Knights to cut into the Crusaders lead.
- Overall, Black Knights went on an 11-2 run to pull within 13 with just over three minutes left.
- Holy Cross went on a 7-1 run to close out the game as the Black Knights fell, 61-42.
- Army did not have any turnovers in the quarter and forced three.
