March 07, 2020 | Baseball
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. –The Army West Point baseball team fell to UIC 5-1 at the Snowbird Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park on Saturday.
The Flames jumped out in front early, scoring four runs in the first. Despite collecting 11 hits in the game, Army was unable to respond to the early deficit.
Two Black Knights delivered three-hit games, as both Anthony Giachin and Rob Regine posted season-high hit totals. But the story of the game was UIC's damage control, as they managed to strand 12 Army runners on base in the contest.
The Army bullpen bounced back with a strong effort. Brian Dawson and Ben DeLaubell combined for 5.0 innings pitched without allowing an earned run. Dawson accounted for four of the frames, striking out three without walking a batter.
Army will look to put it all together when they return to action on Sunday against Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
