PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. –The Army West Point baseball team fell to UIC 5-1 at the Snowbird Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park on Saturday.Â

The Flames jumped out in front early, scoring four runs in the first. Despite collecting 11 hits in the game, Army was unable to respond to the early deficit.Â

Two Black Knights delivered three-hit games, as both Anthony Giachin and Rob Regine posted season-high hit totals. But the story of the game was UIC's damage control, as they managed to strand 12 Army runners on base in the contest.Â

The Army bullpen bounced back with a strong effort. Brian Dawson and Ben DeLaubell combined for 5.0 innings pitched without allowing an earned run. Dawson accounted for four of the frames, striking out three without walking a batter.Â

Army will look to put it all together when they return to action on Sunday against Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.Â

- UIC jumped out in front early, highlighted by a two-run triple by Trey Beckman and an RBI single by Joshua Figueroa to put the Flames up 4-0.
- Â Army was held scoreless until the eighth, when Carter Macias reached on a run scoring error to make it 5-1.Â
- The Black Knights were threatening in the inning, but the rally was cut short when Tim Simoes ripped a line drive that was snared by pitcher Joey Morris. He threw to first for an inning ending double play.
- Anthony Giachin continued his hot streak at the plate with three hits. The junior is 5-10 in the first two games in Port Charlotte and has produced five multi-hit performances in the past seven games.Â
- Rob Regine made the most of his first start of the season, posting his first career three-hit game.Â
