Black Knights Fall to American in OT, 67-62

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army women's basketball fell in a tough overtime contest to the American Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena, 67-62.Â

Army had a 56-54 lead with seven seconds remaining in regulation. However, Indeya Sanders went coast-to-coast and made a layup for American with less than a second remaining forced overtime.Â

- Sophomore Kate Murray paced Army with 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
- Fifteen points is one shy of a season high for Murray.
- This represented her fourth double-digit scoring effort of the season and second in a row.
- Sophomore Alisa Fallon recorded a career-high 15 rebounds, while chipping in five points and four assists.Â
- The Des Plaines, Ill., native's previous high for rebounds in a game had been 11, which she set against Holy Cross on Jan. 15.
- Freshman Hope Brown chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and two assists.
- This marked the Phillipsburg, N.J., native's seventh career double-digit scoring contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the first quarter, but American would lead by as much as nine and exited the first stanza with a 19-15 lead. Sarah Bohn contributed six of the Black Knights' 15 points in the first quarter.Â
- Army trailed 27-15 in the second quarter, but the Black Knights closed out the final 4:44 of the first half scoring eight of the final nine pointsÂ
- Six of those eight points came on a pair of 3-pointers from Natalie Stralkus, while Bohn chipped in two with a layup.Â
- The Black Knights opened the second half on a 9-1 run (17-2 run combined from the end of the first half) to take a 34-29 lead. After Scamman hit a layup, Fallon scored the next four points. That then led to a three from Murray to make it a five-point lead for Army.Â
- Murray drilled another three at the 3:12 mark of the third quarter to give Army its largest lead of the game, 41-35. After American hit a three on the other end, Murray hit two free throws to bring the lead back up to five. A made layup from Kamryn Hall brought the lead up to seven points at the end of three.Â
- The Black Knights led by as many as nine early in the fourth quarter, but American trimmed the lead down to four with a little over four-and-a-half minutes to go in the contest.Â
- With the Army lead down to three at the 2:30 mark, American tied the game up at 50 apiece on a successful three-point play.Â
- Army retook the lead with 1:24 to go on a Fallon made free throw to make it 51-50.
- Murray hit a jumper with 22 seconds to go, giving Army a three-point edge. The Eagles came back with a made lap to make it a one-point game with 17.3 seconds remaining.Â
- Brown made both of her free throws with 12.9 to go. Then with seven seconds to go and Army leading by one, Murray made one of two free throws. After she missed her second, American's Indeya Sanders made a layup with 0.4 seconds remaining, forcing overtime.Â
- The first 3:56 of the overtime frame was scoreless until Brown made a pair of free throws to make it a 58-56 lead for the Black Knights. American answered with the next six points to take a four-point lead.
- Army got within two on a Brown layup with 13 seconds to go. After American made both free throws, Brown again cut the Eagles' lead back to two points with a pair of free throws, but that is as close as the Black Knights would get.Â
