Funk Collects Third Consecutive Weekly League Honor

CENTER VALLEY, - Pa. – For the third consecutive week, Tommy Funk of the Army West Point men's basketball team was named the Patriot League Player of the Week.
Funk becomes the first cadet in program history to earn the player of the week honor from the league three straight times. He did so after leading the Black Knights to a 2-0 week with victories over Bucknell and Lehigh. He additionally was named the Army West Point Athletic Association (AWPAA) Player of the Week for the second straight week.Â
For the week, Funk averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists per contest while shooting 59 percent from the field and 62 percent from long range.
In a 68-59 home win against Bucknell on Wednesday, Funk went 7-of-15 from the field and led all Army scorers with 19 points. He added six boards, five assists and a steal to his stat line versus the Bison. The lone swipe helped give him sole possession of 11th in program history for career steals. Â Â
The Warrington, Pa., native followed that performance with a career night in a thrilling 80-79 road win at Lehigh on Saturday. Funk poured in a career-high 33 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go with seven assists and five rebounds. En route to extending his double-digit scoring streak to 17 games, he also knocked down a career-best seven treys on nine tries and went 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Funk became the first cadet to score 33 points in a game since Jordan Fox '18 went for 33 against Marist on Nov. 18, 2017. It was the first time in his career that he eclipsed the 30-point mark in a game and the first time he made double-digit shots in a contest. His performance helped him moved to 12th in all-time points at West Point with 1,364.
The senior point guard currently ranks fifth in the Patriot League in scoring with 16.5 points per game. He also leads the league and ranks 12th in the nation in assists per game (6.7), while carrying a league-best 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Funk and the Black Knights will look to stay hot as they host Boston University at Christl Arena on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
