Black Knights Fall to AIC, Clinch Fourth Seed for AHA Tournament

Army to host Niagara for Quarterfinals March 13-15
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team fell to AHA regular season champions American International 4-1 tonight.Â

Prior to the game, the Black Knights honored the senior class; William Dietz, Zach Evancho, Dominic Franco, Bryan Gerstenfeld, Matt Penta, Brendan Soucie, Ben Watson, Alex Wilkinson and Michael Wilson for their contributions to the Army hockey program.

The Black Knights also uncovered their path for the Atlantic Hockey Tournament and clinched the fourth seed tonight. Army will host fifth-seeded Niagara on March 13-15 for the quarterfinal round. Games will be 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (if necessary).Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
- The Black Knights skated hard in the first period keeping the score knotted after the first 20 minutes.Â
- AIC tallied a goal 6:41 into the action, but Army got even with a score of their own 1:16 later.Â
- Franco crossed the puck to Evancho at the blue line and he fired off a shot from the left circle. Mason Krueger trailed the play and put away the loose puck to make it a 1-1 game.Â
- The Yellow Jackets netted a pair of goals in the second period and closed out the game with an empty net goal with a minute left on the clock to take the game 4-1.Â
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Penta made a season-high 29 saves tonight.Â
- Krueger's goal was his ninth of the year and 71st of his career. In points, the junior has garnered 18 this season and 42 overall.Â
- He has posted six points in the last five contests for the Cadets.Â
- Evancho notched an assist for the second-straight game for his ninth of the year and 45th in his career.Â
- The senior captain now has 82-career points.Â
- Franco is approaching 100-career points and sits at 97 after tonight's assist.Â
- He has 13 helpers this year and 23 points, while his career assists tally up to 29.Â
- Gerstenfeld dressed for his first game this season.Â
- AIC outshot Army 33-31 tonight.
- The Black Knights have not allowed a power play goal in their last three games.Â
