Hanson, Kutz Take Home GARC Yearly Honors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Clayton Hanson and Kaitlyn Kutz of the Army West Point rifle team each earned Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) yearly honors at the league's award banquet Thursday evening.
Hanson was named an All-GARC Second Team selection in both smallbore and aggregate. In conference matches this season, he posted and average score of 581.63 in smallbore and an aggregate score of 1170.25. Hanson was consistently above the 580 mark in smallbore in conference matches, reaching the marker in all but one match.Kutz earned honorable mention in both air rifle and aggregate. The Darien, Conn., averaged a 590.75 in air rifle and 1168.375 in aggregate in GARC matches. Kutz had her top air rifle score in the season-opener at Ole Miss on Oct. 26 with a 597. Her highest aggregate total came against Kentucky on Jan. 19, when she posted a 1176.
Both Hanson and Kutz will represent Army in the NCAA Championship match in Lexington, Ky., on March 13-14. Hanson will shoot in smallbore, while Kutz will shoot in both smallbore and air rifle.
Emily Gay was named to the conference all-academic team. The Clarence, N.Y., native, who intends on majoring in international affairs and security studies, owns a 3.252 grade point average.
The Black Knights compete in the GARC Championship on Friday and Saturday at the R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range.
