HOW IT HAPPENED
- After not scoring a basket for the first two-and-a-half minutes, the Black Knights used a 10-0 run to push ahead 10-2 near the four-minute mark of the first quarter. Holy Cross managed to cut into Army's lead by the end of the first quarter with the Cadets holding a 13-7 lead through the first 10 minutes of play.
- Army's strong defensive play limited the Crusaders to just 2-of-17 shooting from the floor in the first quarter.
- The roles reversed in the second quarter with Army being held to 3-of-18 shooting in the frame. The Crusaders held a slim 22-21 lead at the break.
- Holy Cross opened the second half with a 7-0 run to push ahead 29-21 by the 8:29 mark. After using a timeout, Army fought back to take the lead 33-31 with 4:02 left in the third. Though, the Crusaders closed the quarter out on a 14-4 run to hold the 45-37 lead.
- A pair of free throws from Manis just 14 seconds into the fourth pushed Holy Cross' lead to 10 points. Though, two quick lay-ins from Bohn made the score 47-41 with 8:58 left to go.
- The Crusaders used a 9-0 run over the next 2:45 to hold their largest lead of the contest at 56-41.
- Army responded with a 9-0 run of its own with Bohn leading the way with five points to cut the Black Knights' deficit back to six points with 2:41 remaining in regulation.
- Shortly after a pair of Manis free throws at the 1:39 mark made the score 58-50, Alisa Fallon found herself at the line. The Des Plaines, Ill., native connected on the first attempt and missed the second, but Layne skyed for the offensive board and found Stralkus, who buried a trey to make the score 58-54.
- Fallon converted two freebies with 46 seconds remaining to make the score 58-56, but the Crusaders worked their lead back up to five with 27 seconds to go.
- After a Fallon lay-in and LaBarbera hitting 1-of-2 from the line, Sarah Bohn made it a one-point game on a transition 3-ball with the clock reading 13 seconds.
- The Crusaders ended up hitting two free throws to go back up three with nine seconds left. Stralkus attempted to send the game to overtime with a step-back three off the dribble, but her shot was just a bit too strong.
