Army Falls to #20 Texas A&M in 26 Run Shootout
February 23, 2020 | Baseball
The Black Knights fought back to take the lead on two separate occasions before falling 14-12 in a 7.2 inning game. The game was called with two outs in the eighth inning due to a pre-determined travel curfew for the Black Knights.
Army trailed 10-6 heading into the seventh and surged ahead with a big rally, highlighted by a three-run double by second baseman Tim Simoes. The junior had a career day, going 4-6 with a career-high five RBIs. Andre Walden followed with an RBI single and later came around to score to give Army an 11-10 lead. The lead would not hold, as the Aggies delivered a rally of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
It was a day full of big offensive stats, as seven different Cadets recorded multi-hit games in a 17-hit effort from the Black Knights. Three of those hits came from freshman Kevin Dubrule, who reached base four times.
Jeremiah Adams had 3 RBIs in the game, two of which came in the fourth inning when he gave Army its first lead of the game on a two-run home run. Nick Manesis hit his first collegiate home run in the contest, a solo-shot in the top of the eighth inning.
The Black Knights will return to action next weekend when they travel to Fayetteville, N.C., for four games at the Armed Forces Invitational at Segra Stadium. The series will feature Army, Air Forace and Campbell University.
