WEST POINT, N.Y. - After making history as the first cadet in program history to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft last January, former Army West Point men's soccer defender Zac McGraw has been re-signed by the Portland Timbers for the 2021 season.
McGraw was selected by the Timbers in the third round (No. 68 overall) of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft after making 68 appearances (66 starts) and tallying one goal and nine assists in addition to helping the Black Knights defense to 21 shutouts as a four-year starter at West Point.
During his time at the Academy, the two-year team captain was a four-time First Team All-Patriot League honoree, a two-time Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, the 2017 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the USCA All-Northeast Region first and third team.
The Torrance, Calif., native didn't find any field time during his first year with the Timbers but is eager to return for a second season and continue to find his role on the team. In an interview with the host of "Catching Up With" with Richard Farley back in September, McGraw mentioned his time at the Academy really helped prepare him to face the obstacles that 2020 has thrown his way and has conditioned him to have strong mental fortitude during these times.
