December 02, 2020 | Women's Basketball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point women's basketball added two more nonconference games to its slate Wednesday afternoon. The Black Knights are set to play Marist at 1 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 5, in Christl Arena. The Cadets will also take on Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.
The Black Knights are up 9-6 in the series against Marist. This will mark the 16th meeting in program history. The two teams faced off against each other for the first time during the 1977-78 season. The last time the two schools met was on Dec. 28, 1999, in McCann Arena, in Poughkeepsie. Army halted the Red Foxes from expanding their five-game win streak in the series, earning the 72-63 triumph in the contest.
Prior to taking over at the helm at West Point, Army Head Coach Dave Magarity served as the head coach of Marist's men's team from 1986-2004. During those years he held a record of 253-258 and lead them to two postseason berths, earning a spot in the 1987 NCAA Tournament and the 1996 NIT.
Army's matchup with Quinnipiac will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two schools. The Bobcats won the first five tilts in the series, but won the most recent game, 67-57, on Nov. 15, 2015. The Black Knights had a trio of double-digits scorers in that game led by Kelsey Minato (26), Brianna Johnson (15) and Aimee Oertner (10).
Game dates and times are subject to change.
