Rifle Takes Second Place in All-Academy Match

RESULTS
WEST POINT, N.Y. ā The No. 5 Army West Point rifle team earned a second place finish in the All-Academy President's Trophy match featuring service academy foes No. 6 Air Force, No. 14 Navy and No. 18 Coast Guard.

The match used the service academy scoring system, which counts the top five scores of eight selected scorers. The Black Knights finished with a mark of 5848 falling one point short of Air Force's tally of 5849. Navy took third place with a score of 5812 and Coast Guard finished in fourth with 5708.

Army finished with the top NCAA mark with an aggregate total of 4686 to match its program record, which it set last week. In all three of its matches this season, Army has set or matched its program record.

"I'm happy that we tied the program record which we reset last week," said Army head coach Web Wright. "We will get some rest and gear up for tomorrow. I know we have more points in us and we can take Air Force tomorrow. We just need to do what we know how to do, relax and get in the zone."

Freshman Kyle Kutz posted a mark of 589, which was just two points shy of tying Army's program record. Senior captain Clayton Hanson finished with the second highest aggregate score with 1178.

"Kyle killed it today. That's a fantastic score for a plebe," Wright added. "Clayton was also really solid. Looking forward to tomorrow."

- Lauren McMahan posted Army's third highest aggregate mark with a total score of 1168.
- Air Force's Peter Fiori had the highest score of the day with a score of 1183.

- Kyle Kutz led the way for the Black Knights with a mark of 589, the second highest score.
- Hanson took third place with a mark of 584. The Jamestown, N.Y., native has stayed above the 580-mark in all three matches this season. Ā
- McMahan (577), Kaitlyn Kutz (576) and Anusha Pakkam (576) rounded out the scoring for the Cadets.
- Fiori posted the highest mark of the day with a 591.
AIR RIFLE: 2360 - Service Match Format Score*: 2946
- Hanson held the highest air rifle mark of the contest with a 594, which Navy's Michael Zanti also registered.
- Army's next highest score belonged to Lauren McMahan, who shot a 591.
- Kyle Kutz (588), Kaitlyn Kutz (587) and Nicholas Cheshire (586) closed out the scoring for Army.
