Black Knights Narrowly Drop Season Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team fell in a tough loss that came down to wire to Hofstra Wednesday afternoon in its opening matchup at Christl Arena. Despite a strong second half effort, the Black Knights fell short in an 81-78 contest.

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Army had four cadet-athletes post double-digit points in its season opener.
- Alisa Fallon led the Black Knights with a double-double performance, notching 23 points and 11 rebounds and also grabbed three steals.
- Twenty-one of Fallon's 23 points came in the second half. This was her fourth career double-double.
- The junior was 7-15 from the floor, 2-3 from three and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.
- Kate Murray shot 50% from the floor (6-12) and from 3-point range (3-6), closing out the day with the second highest point total at 17.
- Sarah Bohn and Natalie Stralkus each had 10 points and three rebounds apiece. Bohn also adding a career-high six assists and two steals.
- The Black Knights' fourth quarter 22-point effort allowed them to take the first lead of the afternoon and hold the Pride to only 6-17 shooting, their lowest of the day.
- Army went 26-51 for 51% shooting, sinking 18-24 from the free throw line and eight total three pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After winning possession off the tipoff, Army got an early lead with a quick three-pointer from Bohn off a Taylor Sullivan assist.
- Army saw a wealth of scoring in their lineup in the first, with points from Bohn, Sullivan, Murray, Jessica Rawls and freshman Sam McNaughton.
- Murray posted seven of her 17 total points in the first quarter alone.
- The Black Knights found themselves in turnover trouble early, allowing the Pride to take a 23-15 lead into the second quarter.
- Murray and Bohn hit their second treys of the day in the second to help the Black Knights close the gap.
- Success at the free throw line proved to be a key asset for the Black Knights as they hit 9-15 before the half.
- After being down 10 at the half, Bohn sank an early layup in the third, moving Army back within single digits.
- Bohn's layup would kick start Army's offense in the third, allowing them to shoot 58% from the floor and a solid 6-6 from the line.
- Fallon poured in eight points in the third quarter, finding success near the basket. The junior was 3-5 from the floor in the third and added a pair of free throws.
- Despite Army's offense heating up in the third frame, the Pride still took 63-56 lead into the final quarter.
- The Cadets opened the fourth on a 15-4 scoring run to the 71-67 lead with 6:51 remaining, their first lead since the 2:05 mark of the first quarter.
- Fallon was responsible for eight points during the stretch. She ended the quarter with 13 points.
- The game remained neck-and-neck through the conclusion.
- In the final 15 seconds there were three lead changes. Hostra's Rosi Nicholson connected on a layup with 15 seconds remaining.
- On Army's ensuing possession Fallon found herself on the block and put up a layup that she missed, but managed to collect her rebound and successfully convert the put back to Army ahead 78-77 with seven seconds left in regulation.
- After burning its final timeout, Hofstra advanced the ball to midcourt and found Jaylen on Hines on the block on the inbounds, who put home what proved to be the game-winner.
