Women's Rugby Shuts Out Navy On the Road

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Army West Point women's rugby team opened up their first competition of the year with a dominant 39-0 shutout win over Navy on Saturday. The Black Knights scored early and often, allowing the defense to hold the Midshipmen scoreless through 90 minutes.
Alex DiMarco put Army on the board first in the fifth minute with a successful penalty kick. DiMarco's 3-0 score held stagnant until the 24th minute when Abrianna Williams ran for the Black Knights first try of the afternoon. Army's offense quickly gained momentum, posting two more unanswered tries in the 28th and 38th minute from Julia Riekena and Charisma Henry. With a strong 22-0 lead, DiMarco kicked for her second successful penalty kick of the day opening the gap to 25. Riekena and McKenzie Borchers sealed the deal for the Black Knights in the final 20 minutes; Rikena adding her second of the day and Borchers her first.
DiMarco had a dominant day for Army, adding six penalty kick points and eight point in successful conversions alongside Riekena who led with two tries on the afternoon.
