Army Falls on the Road to American

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Army women's basketball team could not fight its way back from an early deficit to Patriot League foe American Wednesday evening at Bender Arena. The Eagles ended up taking the first meeting between the two schools this season, 73-57.
Hope Brown was Army's leading scorer shooting 8-of-13 from the field and finishing with 19 points. The freshman was also 3-of-5 from beyond-the-arc. Additionally, Lindsey Scamman contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles shot well from the field, hitting at a 45.9 percent clip. They distributed the wealth on offense with all 11 of their players that saw action finishing with points. Leading the group was Kaitlyn Marenyi, who registered 19 points off the bench. She was 6-of-11 shooting and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

- This was her fifth time reaching double-digit scoring this season.
- The freshman's three made 3-pointers tied a career high, which she initially set against LIU on Dec. 4.
- Scamman recorded her fourth double-double of the season.
- She's now scored in double-figures 10 times this season, which is tied for the team's lead with Fallon.
- Kamryn Hall dished out a team-high four assists.
- The Sacramento, Calif., native has recorded at least four helpers in four of her last five games.
- The Eagles improved their lead in the all-time series to 24-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with two early buckets from Scamman, but American then responded with an 18-0 run to create separation. Brown then scored the Black Knights' next five points to make American's lead less sizeable, but the Eagles still claimed a 21-9 advantage through the first quarter of play.
- American shot 50 percent from the field in the second quarter led by Emily Fisher who was 3-of-4 from the floor. Alisa Fallon carried the load for the Black Knights in the second stanza, recording all nine of her points on the evening in the frame.
- The Eagles held a 16-point advantage with just over two minutes left in the opening half, but Army managed to get three back at the free throw line to head into the break trailing 36-23.
- The two teams were relatively evenly matched in the second half, with the Eagles narrowly outscoring the Cadets, 37-34. The teams had identical shooting numbers, hitting 14-of-32 from the field.
- Despite the similar numbers, American was still able to maintain a double-digit lead for the entirety of the second half.
- Twelve of Brown's 19 points came in the second half. The Phillipsburg, N.J., native shot 5-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
