Cadets Drop 3-2 Overtime Contest to Canisius

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After forcing overtime with a 6-on-5 goal with 1:34 remaining in regulation, the Army West Point hockey team fell in overtime to Canisius, 3-2, on Friday.Â

Michael Wilson netted the game-tying goal to force the extra frame with help from Alex Wilkinson and Colin Bilek. The Golden Griffins struck with 26 seconds left to clinch the overtime victory.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
- The first period was a long one with three reviewed plays, two 5:00 majors issued as well as a game misconduct.Â
- During its 5:00 major that carried into the second period, Canisius scored shorthanded at the 3:08 minute mark.
- The Black Knights responded with a power play goal however 31 seconds later when Brendan Soucie found the back of the net.Â
- The Golden Griffins jumped ahead 2-1 thanks to a power play goal with 14:32 to go in the third period.Â
- Wikinson almost knotted the score, but nailed it off the pipe.Â
- With 1:34 remaining, Trevin Kozlowski raced to the bench to give the Black Knights a 6-on-5 opportunity.Â
- Wilson took advantage scoring the game-tying goal off a tip with 27 seconds to go off a shot by Wilkinson.
- Canisius sealed the game with a goal 26 seconds left in overtime.Â
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Wilkinson posted two points on the night. It was the senior's first multi-assist game of the season and 10th in his career.Â
- Wilkinson now totals seven helpers in 2019-20 and 11 points. In career numbers, he boasts 57 assists and 74 points.Â
- Wilson scored for the third time in five games. It was also his sixth point in the same.
- He has registered 11 tallies and 20 points in 2019-20. In his career, Wilson has produced 36 goals and 67 points.Â
- Soucie was back for his third game of the year scoring his first goal of his senior season.Â
- In 103 games, Soucie has contributed 31 goals and 58 points.Â
- It also marked his 10th-career power play score.Â
- Bilek notched his 11th helper of the year and 16th point tonight, while John Zimmerman had his 14th assist and 31st in his career.Â
- Both Bilek and Zimmerman are on a two-game scoring streak.Â
- Kozlowski finished the night with 19 saves.Â
