January 28, 2020 | Men's Basketball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Tommy Funk of the Army West Point men's basketball team was named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Co-Player of the Week as well as the Army West Point Athletic Association (AWPAA) Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Funk paced the Black Knights during a 2-0 week against two of the top-three defenses in the Patriot League. In two games, he averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest while posting an 8.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He shot 52 percent from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe
The senior point guard got his week started with a double-double on the road in a 94-74 victory at Lafayette on Wednesday night. Funk went for 19 points and dished out 11 assists with just one turnover versus the Leopards. His efforts on the offensive end helped lift the Cadets to a season-high 94 points, the most by an Army squad since Nov. 18, 2017.
Funk then showed out opposite service-academy rival Navy on Saturday, tying his career-best scoring mark of 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting. He paired his point total with six assists. His performance on the offensive side of the ball allowed Army to put up 73 points against a top-20 scoring defense nationally. It was also the most points Navy has allowed at home this season.
Funk and the Black Knights will be back in action on Wednesday when Army hosts Bucknell for an 11 a.m. Patriot League contest at Christl Arena.
