Black Knights Fall to Navy in Annapolis
January 25, 2020 | Women's Basketball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lindsey Scamman had a career game with 21 points and 22 rebounds, but the Army women's basketball team fell to service academy foe Navy in Alumni Hall on Saturday.
Scamman's 22 rebounds ties a program record, which had been accomplished by a cadet just three times before Saturday's contest. The sophomore from 29 Palms, Calif., shot 8-of-15 from the field including 2-of-3 from beyond-the-arc in her 37 minutes of play. As a group, Army shot 33.3 percent from the floor and at a 35 percent clip from 3-point range.
Mary Kate Ulasewicz led the Midshipmen with a game-high 23 points, which also pairs as a new career high. The senior guard shot 7-of-16 from the field and was 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. The Mids capitalized off of the Black Knights' turnovers, finishing the afternoon with 25 points off Army miscues.

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Scamman joins Pam Pearson '86 and Madison Hovren '19 as the only three players in program history to grab 22 rebounds in a contest. Hovren accomplished the feat twice in her career, with the most recent occurring against Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 5, 2018.
- It is also an Army-Navy series record, surpassing Katie Macfarlane '04, who corralled 19 against the Mids on Feb. 28, 2004.
- Scamman is the first Black Knight to record at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game since Hovren did so against Lafayette on March 9, 2019.
- This was her second 20-point game this season.
- Morgann Yancey notched her first start of the season.
- The Dallas, Texas, native registered three steals to match her career high.
- Navy improved its advantage in the all-time series to 38-36.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army started off the first quarter shooting 3-of-4 from 3-point range with three different players connecting from deep: Alisa Fallon, Scamman and Hope Brown. Navy, however, held the 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter after Ulasewicz hit a floater in the waning seconds of the first.
- The second quarter was low-scoring with the Mids outscoring the Black Knights 12-7 to take the 26-20 advantage into halftime.
- At the break, Scamman had already reached a double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points.
- The Mids opened the second half on a 10-2 run to extend its lead to 36-22 by the midway mark of the third quarter. Army cut Navy's lead to 38-28 by the end of the third quarter thanks to a 3-ball from Sarah Bohn with just under 30 seconds remaining.
- The Black Knights had strong start to the final quarter of play with two quick buckets in the first 1:10 of the period to cut Navy's lead to six points. Though on the ensuing possession, Ulasewicz drilled a 3-pointer to put the Mids ahead 41-32.
- Navy held a comfortable lead for much of the remainder of the regulation, but the Black Knights kept within striking distance. With 1:13 left Fallon hit a clutch 3-pointer to again shrink Navy's advantage to six points.
- After Fallon's trey, Army forced two Navy turnovers thanks to a strong press, but was not able to capitalize of off them.
