Cadets Drop Close Contest to Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team fell, 57-52, in a nail-biter to Lafayette Wednesday evening in Christl Arena.

With just over 35 seconds remaining in regulation, Alisa Fallon hit a 3-pointer to cut Lafayette's lead to 53-52. Though, the Leopards were a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line following the shot to secure their fourth Patriot League victory this season.

Kate Murray led the Cadets with 15 points, shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Also scoring in double figures on the evening were Fallon, who finished with 14 points, and Sarah Bohn, who had 13. As a team, the Black Knights were 10-of-23 from beyond-the-arc.

The dominating force for the Leopards proved to be Natalie Kucowski, who registered a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds and added six blocks. Drew Freeland also had a big game for Lafayette with 16 points. Â

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Murray registered her second double-digit scoring effort of the season.
- She was one point shy of matching her season high of 16, which she set against Boston U. on Jan. 12.
- Since Patriot League play commenced, Murray is shooting 43.3 percent from beyond-the-arc.
- Fallon has now reached double-digit scoring in 13 games this season, which is tied with Lindsey Scamman for the team lead.
- Fallon also dished out six assists, just one shy of her career high, which she established against Colgate on Jan. 5.
- Bohn notched her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season.
- She was 5-of-7 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from downtown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army started the game quick out of the gates with an 8-0 run with a pair of treys from Hope Brown and Fallon. Though, Lafayette responded with a run of its own, eventually tying the contest 10-10 near the midway mark of the opening frame. The remainder of the first quarter was neck-and-neck with the Cadets claiming a 17-15 lead through one quarter of play.
- Army started to separate itself in the beginning of the second quarter. A made layup by Bohn with just over seven minutes remaining gave the Black Knights a nine-point cushion, its largest lead of the game.
- Both teams went cold in the final stretch of the first half, with neither hitting a field goal in the final 4:49. Still, Army headed into halftime with the 31-23 lead.
- Lafayette came out of the break hot, opening on a 11-0 scoring run to push ahead 34-31 and earn its first lead of the game. The Black Knights answered back to with run of their own to hold the 41-37 advantage with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, it would be Lafayette that took the slight 42-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
- The fourth quarter was incredibly tight with neither team holding more than a five-point lead. Though it was the Leopards that pulled away at the end.
