Black Knights Earn First Patriot League Win Over Holy Cross

WEST POINT, N.Y. – In front of a crowd of nearly 1,700 fans, the Army West Point women's basketball team defeated Holy Cross, 61-48, Wednesday afternoon to earn its first Patriot League win of the season. The stands were filled with students from local elementary schools as part of Army's Education Day. Â

After scoring all 13 of the Black Knights' points in the first quarter, Alisa Fallon finished the contest with 21 on 8-of-13 shooting. She also pulled in 11 rebounds to register a double-double. Lindsey Scamman also finished with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. After being held to 33.3 percent shooting in the first half, the Cadets shot at a 44.4 percent clip in the second half.

Megan Swords led the way for the Crusaders with a double-double of her own, with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Holy Cross was Avery LaBarbera, who registered 11 points.

- This was the lowest point-total that Army has held an opponent to since it limited Navy to same amount on Feb. 18, 2019.
- The Black Knights cashed in 21 points off Holy Cross turnovers.
- This was Fallon's second double-double of the season.
- It also marked her third 20-point game.
- Fallon has now reached double-digit scoring in 11 games.
- Scamman extended her double-digit scoring streak to four games.
- The 29 Palms, Calif., native has registered double-figure points in 12 games.
- Sarah Bohn had five assists in the contests, which tied her career high.
- There were 11 lead changes and eight ties in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With all of the Black Knights' 13 points in the opening frame, Fallon also managed to outscore Holy Cross, as Army held the 13-12 lead through the first 10 minutes of play. The Des Plaines, Ill., native was 5-of-6 from the floor including 2-of-2 from beyond-the-arc.
- The second quarter was low-scoring for both sides, with Holy Cross managing to knot the score at 24-24 heading into halftime. Scamman led the way for the Black Knights in the second stanza with six points, while Avery LaBarbera had seven for Holy Cross.
- Seven of Army's 11 points in the second quarter came off turnovers.
- The third quarter was again a defensive battle with Army the score being 26-26 by the midway point of the frame. Holy Cross shot ahead 37-33 with just over 1:30 left in the quarter, but Kate Murray buried a 3-pointer to cut the Crusaders lead to one heading into the fourth quarter.
- Army's offense caught fire in the final stanza, shooting at a 50 percent clip in the frame. Ahead 50-44 with just under 2:30 remaining, Kate Murray hit a corner trey to give Army the nine-point lead.
- Kamryn Hall, who was held scoreless in the first three quarters, contributed seven in the fourth.
