June 05, 2019 | Men's Gymnastics
WEST POINT, NY – Head coach Dr. Doug Van Everen announced the addition of Evan Eigner as an assistant coach to the Army West Point gymnastics coaching staff Wednesday.
"Evan is a great addition to our staff," said Van Everen. "He will offer us support in a variety of areas. His background at Temple, Ohio State and Maryland provides us a well-rounded coach."
Eigner comes to West Point after serving as an assistant coach at Temple where he played an integral role in rebuilding the program during a successful 2019 season. He helped coach the team to a third-place finish at the USAG Collegiate Nationals, planned the inaugural Level 4 Region 7 Championships, and oversaw the team's social media and marketing.
Prior to his time with the Owls, Eigner was an assistant coach at Maryland with the women's gymnastics team from 2016-18. He was the primary coach on floor and vault and held a variety of administrative responsibilities. Eigner's time in College Park was highlighted by a strong 2018 campaign in which the Terrapins went 21-8, beat five top-25 teams, and achieved its highest NCAA Regionals score in program history.
A 2016 graduate of Ohio State, Eigner majored in sport industry and spent two seasons competing for the men's gymnastics team. During his time with the Buckeyes, he helped the program to the 2016 Big Ten Championship and a third-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championship. He was an Academic All-Big Ten and a CGA First Team All-America Scholar Athlete, while also serving as the team's community service coordinator.
As a student-athlete, Eigner also acclimated himself with the athletic department's external operations office, working as an event management intern and a Buckeye Marketing Academy student assistant.
Prior to his time in Columbus, Eigner spent two seasons on Temple's men's gymnastics team. He helped lead the team to the 2013 ECAC Championship and placed third on rings at the 2014 ECAC Championship.
Eigner competed under his father, Fred Turoff, at Temple. Turoff was a U.S. World Team member in 1970 and an Olympic assistant coach for Team USA in 1992. He is a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and Temple Athletics Hall of Fame.
A native of Philadelphia, Eigner also boasts Junior Olympic coaching experience at Philadelphia Boys' Gymnastics, AJS Pancott NTC, and Silver Stars Gymnastics.
