Army Moves On With Win Over Navy
June 01, 2019 | Women's Rugby
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Army West Point women's rugby team continued its shutout streak Saturday at Talon Energy Stadium, as the Black Knights defeated rival Navy 31-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Collegiate Rugby Championships.
"Mixed performance, but always good beating Navy," said Assistant Coach Steve Lewis. "We have some injuries unfortunately, but it will be a good opportunity for someone else to step up."
Army came out of the gates hot, as Sam Sullivan scored from the opening kick to set the tempo in what would be her first of three tries on the day.
Sullivan's second and third try would both come before the half to give the Cadets a solid 21-0 lead heading into the break.
The Black Knights kept their foot on the gas in the second half, adding two more scores to cement the win and set up a semifinal contest against top seed Penn State on Sunday.
