Navy Forces Decisive Game 3 with Army After 4-2 Win
May 18, 2019 | Baseball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Army West Point baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to rival Navy here Saturday afternoon to force a decisive Game 3 in the Patriot League championship series.
The Mids used a three-run second inning to jump ahead early. Army cut into that lead in the fifth when it registered two runs on two hits but that would be all the Black Knights would manage to get in the game. Navy then added an insurance run in the seventh to ultimately put the game away.
Sunday's series finale is set for 2 p.m. at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. The winner of that will advance to the NCAA tournament.
Army couldn't seem to figure out Navy's starting pitcher Jared Leins as the sophomore allowed just four hits and two runs over eight innings of work.
Jacob Hurtubise and Josh White each recorded a team-high two hits in the game, while Hurtubise and Drake Titus brought home both of the Cadets' runs.
Tyler Giovinco was tagged with the loss after giving up 11 hits and four runs in eight innings.

- Army did not record an extra base hit, while Navy posted one (a double).
- Blake Ledoux and White accounted for the Black Knights' only two runs in the contest.
- Logan Smith pitched a clean sheet in the ninth to keep it a two-run game and give the Cadets life in the bottom half.

- With his two hits on the day, Hurtubise extended his hitting-streak to 13-straight games.

Titus then stepped up to the plate and converted on an RBI-groundout to hand the Cadets their first run of the game. Hurtubise followed suit this time with a single to center field to score White from third.
- Navy extended its lead to 4-2 in the seventh when an Evan Lowery single through the right side scored Christian Policelli.
- The Black Knights got the tying run up to the plate in the eighth and the go ahead run to the plate in the ninth but weren't able to convert.
