Gymnastics Claims Second at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Army West Point gymnastics team claimed second on Saturday at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a 390.650 score.
Elliott Herman and Mathew Davis were both crowned champions on the day. Three Black Knights picked up major awards including Davis as ECAC Rookie of the Year, Cole Casanova as ECAC Co-Senior Athlete of the Year and Rex Scott as ECAC Most Improved Gymnast.
The Black Knights await their fate for NCAAs and will find out qualifying teams tonight.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MEET NOTES
- Davis ranked second in the All-Around (79.050) and Casanova finished fourth (77.300).
- The rookie produced the top score on parallel bars with a 13.150.
- Davis turned in a career-best performance on floor exercise which was scored 14.400.
- Erik Del Cid was close by with a 14.000, also a career-high to place fourth. He was second on vault today with a 14.250.
- Herman championed the still rings with a 13.850.
- The mark was a career-high for the senior.
- The Black Knights combined for a 69.550 on floor exercise, 0.100 off from the program record.
COMPETITION
- Davis led the way on floor with a meet-best 14.400. Del Cid (14.000), Casanova (13.900) and Herman (13.850) were not close behind.
- Matthew Martin was Army's top finisher on pommel horse with a score of 13.400.
- On still rings, it was all about Herman's 13.850.
- Taka Giese (13.250) and Casanova (13.200) also scored in the 13's on the apparatus.
- Del Cid was solid on vault today where he ranked second overall.
- He posted a 14.250 score.
- Parallel bars featured Davis's first-place score of 13.150.
- On high bar, Davis ranked sixth overall at 13.050 as Giese (13.000) and Scott (12.900) followed suit.
