Black Knights Advance in Patriot League Tournament

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 2 seed Army West Point men's tennis team opened up the Patriot League Conference Tournament victorious Friday night at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights defeated No. 7 seed Loyola 4-0 in the quarterfinals to set up a date with No. 3 seed Lehigh in the semifinals on Saturday.
"It was nice to get back on the winning track again and also just shifting the mindset," said Associate Head Coach, Randy Rowley. "The Star Match is over with, so now we're playing for a championship. That's something coach Poling and coach Johnson and I are working on -- to make sure we're going in with the right attitude."
Army (13-13) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after another stellar performance in doubles play. The freshman duo of Diego Huttepain and Alejandro Quiros provided the clincher with their 6-3 win at No. 3.
The Black Knights kept the momentum going in singles play, as Loyola (6-11) dropped all six opening sets. Junior Myles Conlin made quick work at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-0. Fellow cow Anant Mundra made it 3-0 Army with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.
The clincher would come at No. 3, with senior captain David Mitchell taking down Benny Glezer, 6-1, 6-3.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army won its 17th doubles point of the season.
- Conlin picked up win No. 10 from the No. 1 singles position this season.
- Mundra earned his team leading 11th singles win this spring, his sixth win in a row.
- Lehigh defeated Colgate 4-1, Navy beat Lafayette 4-0, and Boston University downed Bucknell 4-2 in the other quarterfinal matches.
