Army’s Late Rally Not Enough In 3-2 Loss
March 09, 2019 | Baseball
HOUSTON, Texas - Army West Point baseball tried to rally in the ninth but saw its host Houston secure the 3-2 victory here Saturday night.
The Cougars made it two-straight wins over the Black Knights after hanging on for the one-run victory despite a late charge by the visitors. Drake Titus sparked the ninth-inning rally by leading off the frame with a walk. Anthony Giachin then singled to right field to score what would end up being Army's final run. Giachin advanced to second on the play after a fielding error to place him in scoring position with one out. Unfortunately, the home side retired the next three batters down in order to preserve the win.
Giachin led the Black Knights' offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a run batted in, a double and a walk. Titus and Trey Martin earned Army's other two hits in the game.
Starting pitcher Sam Messina shifted to 2-2 on the year after giving up five hits, thee runs and one walk in 5.2 innings of work. The senior did manage to strikeout six while on the hill though.
