Men's Soccer Releases 2019 Spring Schedule
March 07, 2019 | Men's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point head men's soccer coach Russell Payne announced the team's 2019 spring schedule on Thursday afternoon.
It will be a challenging spring slate for a Black Knights' squad that is coming off their first Patriot League Tournament championship appearance since 1996. The schedule will be highlighted by a trip to England where the Cadets will take on several international teams including the U-23 squads of Burnley, Birmingham City and Southampton FC.
Army will also be tested on the banks of the Hudson when they take on Maryland, the defending national champions, on May 4 at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
"This is the most games that this program will have ever played in a spring season," Payne said. "When you combine the foreign tour games with our normal spring slate, we have a great opportunity to grow through nine competitive matches. We found a good balance of competition to allow our guys to work on some things in spring development and to challenge us.
"Our spring season is highlighted by our three international games on our foreign tour against the youth professional teams and a game back home at West Point against the 2018 national champions, the University of Maryland. We want to have a big community crowd for that game to support our team and to welcome our guests. We look forward to that being a cumulation of a great spring."
