WEST POINT - After setting the Army West Point program record in the shot put on Saturday, junior Michael Renard has been named Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Week.Â
Renard's throw of 17.68 meters was the top distance in the Patriot League this season and broke the Army West Point record of 17.38 that was set by Kris Terrill in 1998.Â
"Mike has done a nice job since coming in as a freshman," head coach Mike Smith said. "He experienced little success in high school, but has worked very hard and is a great example of the value of perseverance and determination."Â
In addition to Renard, junior Calli McMullen of the Army women's track team received honorable mention for the second consecutive week. McMullen claimed the team's lone individual victory in the 400m dash and anchored the 4x100 meter relay team to a victory.Â
The Black Knights now turn their attention to the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet in Annapolis on April 6.Â
