WEST POINT - Army West Point freshman Justin Young has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.Â
At the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Invitational, Young posted a Patriot League best time of 14.08 in his victory in the 110-meter hurdles. He also helped record a league best time in the 4x400Â meter relay and placed second in the 400-meter hurdles.Â
"Justin is doing a nice job of adapting to collegiate training and competition," head coach Mike Smith said. "He is a very good competitor and that has given him an edge at a lot of meets. He will continue to improve as he races more frequently."Â
It has been an accolade filled rookie year for the Wylie, Texas, native, as his indoor campaign was highlighted by three Rookie of the Week awards and a Track Athlete of the Week award en route to his Patriot League Rookie of the Meet performance at the 2019 Patriot League Indoor Championship.Â
In addition to Young, senior Jeff Giannettino, who set a Patriot League best mark in the high jump, and junior Calli McMullen, who posted a league best in the 200-meter dash, received honorable mention for their respective sports.
