Chalifoux Added as NCAA Qualifier for Army
March 18, 2019 | Wrestling
INDIANAPOLIS – Junior 125-pounder Trey Chalifoux of the Army West Point wrestling team has been added to the field of the NCAA Championships as an alternate, the association announced late Monday afternoon.
Chalifoux becomes the seventh Cadet to qualify for nationals this season, joining senior Rocco Caywood (197 lbs.), juniors Lucas Weiland (157 lbs.), Cael McCormick (165 lbs.), Ben Harvey (174 lbs.) and Noah Stewart (184 lbs.) and rookie Corey Shie (141 lbs.). This marks just the third time in program history there will be at least seven Black Knights and first since 1987. The only other time was when Army sent a program-record eight wrestlers to the national tournament in 1968.
The Nashville, Tenn., native owns a 19-13 record on the season, including a personal-best 6-2 mark in duals. He has scored four bonus point victories with one fall, one technical fall and two major decisions. Chalifoux recently placed sixth at the EIWA Championships on March 8-9, reaching the podium for the third consecutive season.
The Black Knights will compete in the NCAA Championships at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh from Thursday to Saturday.
