Black Knights Place 10 on All-League Squads
February 28, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's swimming and diving team placed 10 Cadets on the postseason all-league teams following last week's second-place finish at the Patriot League Championships.
"We are very proud of our All-Patriot League team selections," head coach Mickey Wender said. "It was a highly-contested competitive meet. All 10 schools have improved immensely. To have multiple cadets recognized on the all-league team is a great accomplishment."
Â
Individuals who win events at the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships automatically qualify for the all-league first team, while runner-up finishers are guaranteed a second-team spot. Both teams are back-filled by points, meaning a second-team member can move up to the first team if they accumulated enough points during the meet. Only individual points count.
Â
Five Cadets repeated as all-league performers, including Kevin Doo, Nathan Hein, Brian McKenrick, Tom Ottman and Jay Yang. Doo, Hein and McKenrick have each earned a pair of all-league honors during their time at the Academy, while Yang has been named to an all-league team in each of the last three seasons. Ottman, the team's co-captain, has been an all-league swimmer in all four years with the Black Knights.
In their debuts at the Patriot League Championships, Evan Zhang and Josh Zock collected first team recognition, while Daniel Alaimo, Kevin Lin and Tyler Kim earned second team honors.
Â
This marks the third straight season that Army had double-digit Cadets on the all-league teams.
