Last Second Heroics Force Overtime with Crusaders

WORCESTER, Mass. – Trailing 2-1 with 25 seconds left in regulation, Zach Evancho of the Army West Point hockey team scored a power play goal to force overtime against Holy Cross on Friday night. The Black Knights and the Crusaders skated to a 2-2 draw, providing one point to the Cadets in league standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights scored on their first power play of the game four minutes into the second period.
- Evancho passed the puck into traffic in front of the net where Colin Bilek was waiting and took a shot. Dominic Franco came up with the rebound and scored with a between the legs shot 1:06 into the power play.
- Holy Cross tallied back-to-back even strength goals in the third period within 6:15 minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
- With 25 seconds remaining in regulation, Matt Berkovitz passed the puck along the blue line to Evancho who fired a shot from the right circle beating Erik Gordon to tie the game.
- The Black Knights closed out the overtime frame with the puck firing as many shots as possible including the final of the game, but things would end in a 2-2 tie.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Evancho tied the game with his ninth goal of the season and his 30th overall.
- The junior now boasts six power play tallies this year and 17 in an Army sweater.
- Evancho also set up the first goal of the night earning assist 12 of the year.
- The Buffalo, N.Y., native has registered 59 points in his career.
- It was Evancho's fifth mult-point game of 2018-19 and 13th in his career.
- Franco reached double-digits in goals for the year with tonight's score.
- The junior has posted 31-career goals and has 68 points.
- Bilek aided on tonight's first goal for his ninth helper of the year and 15th point.
- The freshman has garnered three points in the last four games.
- Berkovitz contributed an assist for the second straight contest.
- His total increases to five this season.
- Daniel Haider was also credited with an assist on tonight's final goal of the game.
- The freshman has three this year which brings his point total to six.
- Trevin Kozlowski had another impressive performance in net, making a career-high 31 saves. His previous high was 28 against Mercyhurst in October.
- The Black Knights went 2-for-4 on the power play while holding the Crusaders scoreless on extra man opportunities at 0-for-4.

- The Black Knights and Crusaders will pick up right where they left off tomorrow night at the Hart Center. Puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.
- Army will then play seven of its final eight regular season games at Tate Rink.
