Army Advances to Championship Showdown with Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Army is going to the Patriot League Championship! The No. 3 Army West Point women's soccer team upset No. 2 Holy Cross, 2-1, in the Patriot League Semifinals Friday night to keep its season alive.
The Black Knights will take on top-seeded Navy Sunday at 1 p.m.
Freshmen Dara Murray and Lauren Drysdale notched Army's goals tonight, while Alyssa Carfagno was credited with a pair of assists.
The Cadets reach the Patriot League Championship game for the 11th time in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army continued its momentum from Tuesday with the first goal in the 26th minute.
- Carfagno set up the play beautifully leading the pass for Murray. She split three Holy Cross defenders for an open lane to goal.
- The Crusaders answered back in the 48th minute however to tie things up at 1-1.
- It didn't last long though as the Black Knights went back on top with 23 minutes to go in the second half.
- Carfagno was the playmaker yet again after she passed the ball to Erynn Johns who was waiting on the outside. Johns sailed in a long ball which Drysdale was able to chase in to secure the score putting Army ahead 2-1.
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights improve to 9-6-4 overall and advance to the Patriot League Championships for the 11th time in program history.
- It is the first time Army has posted nine wins since the 2012 season when the team went 12-4-5.
- Carfagno notched her first multi-assist game of the year with her pair of helpers tonight.
- The freshman now has five on the year and a team-leading 17 points.
- Murray registered her first-career goal tonight bringing her season point total to four.
- Drysdale and Johns are no strangers to the score sheet in the post season.
- Drysdale scored the game-winner, her second of the season.
- She now boasts four scores on the year and 13 points.
- Johns posted her seventh point in the Patriot League Tournament alone and 10th overall in 2019.
- Cassalia recorded three saves in net to set a career-high in wins during a season (9).
