Cassalia Receives PL Honors for Academic Achievements

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point junior captain Sydney Cassalia was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team for the second-straight season.
Cassalia, who received Goalkeeper of the Year distinction and All-Patriot League First Team accolades on Tuesday, continued to tack on the league awards as she earned academic praise.
The Omaha, Neb., native boasts a 3.854 grade-point average as a Mathematics major and a Cyber Security minor. She ranks 36th in her class and earned the Superintendent's Award for Excellence and Dean's List recognition every semester. Off the pitch, Cassalia is the A-4 Squad Leader and also achieved the Sword Award.
She was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018 as well.
Cassalia had yet another stellar season in net for the Black Knights posting six shutouts, a 0.84 goals against average and 0.792 save percentage, while also notching an assist.
Cassalia led Army to a five-game unbeaten streak at the end of the year to boost the Black Knights from as low as seventh in the standings to the third seed. In league-only games, the junior posted three shutouts, a 0.846 save percentage and 0.63 goals against average.
She has recorded 22-career shutouts to rank tied for second all-time in Army's record books and tied for eighth in the Patriot League.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out during the summer.
The voting for the all-Academic squads was conducted by the League's women's soccer sports information directors, who could not vote for their own student-athletes.
