November 15, 2019 | Women's Cross Country
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's cross country team placed 15th at the NCAA Northeast Region Cross Country Championships on Friday.
The result is the team's best overall finish since they placed 14th in 2014. The Black Knights were led by freshman Alexandra Gibbs who placed 55th with a time of 20:52.2. Gibbs' finish is the best by a Cadet since Madison Hill finished 41st in 2015.
Junior Mika Andrews finished shortly behind in 68th at 20:58.4. Two other Black Knights placed in the top-100, as Dominique Shultz placed 88th and Sam Coletti finished 92nd.
COACH'S CORNER: Head Coach Mike Smith
"We ran at the same level that we have all year long. Our women packed up nicely and did a nice job of managing the race. In particular, I thought Allie had a strong race. She was pretty aggressive and it worked well for her. Mika really pushed the middle of the race and passed a lot of people. Dominque was able to close very well. She has really started to improve of late and has done a nice job of competing well throughout the races. Sam and Ramsey were our 4th and 5th and closed their careers with a nice effort today. Overall, we adapted well to the changes that were thrown at us and we beat the teams we were supposed to beat. This was a strong effort today for this group of women."
