Black Knights Power Past Crusaders on Friday Night

WORCESTER, Mass. – Thanks to two goals in the first give minutes of action, the Army West Point hockey team powered past Holy Cross, 4-1, on Friday night.Â

John Zimmerman and John Keranen had two points apiece to lead the Black Knights.Â

Trevin Kozlowski turned aside 26 shots and helped back the penalty kill unit which was a perfect 6-for-6 on the kill.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
- The Black Knights charged ahead with a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of action.Â
- Zimmerman netted a power play goal to kick things off 2:46 into the game.Â
- He sailed a wrister in from the high slot to beat Matt Radomsky on his glove side with one second remaining on the Army man advantage. Â
- Two minutes later it was Mason Krueger with the score.Â
- Keranen set up the play and Krueger was able to backhand the puck over the goal line on the rush.Â
- Holy Cross cut the Cadets' lead to 2-1 with 13:42 on the clock in the middle frame.Â
- The Black Knights bounced back to close out the second stanza with another even-strength goal set up by Keranen.
- With 3:29 to go in the period, the rookie made a no-look pass over to a trailing Daniel Haider setting up the one-timer.Â
- Army wasn't done yet though as Zach Evancho netted his second of the season, this time on the doorstep, with 2:14 remaining putting the game out of reach at 4-1.
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights posted another clean sheet on the penalty kill.Â
- Army denied six extra-man opportunities and has not allowed a power play score since the season opener.
- The Cadets have killed off 31Â penalties in a row which spans over 444:20 minutes of action and seven full games.
- Kozlowski made 26 saves in net, one shy of his season high.
- Keranen had a breakout night with two assists, including the helper on the game-winning goal.Â
- The freshman is the fourth player this season to notch a multi-assist game.Â
- Keranen increased his season point total to three after tonight's showing.Â
- Zimmerman also had a multi-point performance with a power play goal and an assist on the final goal in the game.Â
- Before his junior season Zimmerman was solely the playmaker with 17 assists, but has now recorded two goals in 2019-20.Â
- Tonight marked Zimmerman's fourth multi-point game in his career and second this season.Â
- He increased his career point total to 22 in 51 games played.Â
- Krueger registered his first goal of the year and third point. He now has 13 career goals and 27 points.Â
- Haider netted goal number two of the season tonight and seven in his career.Â
- The sophomore has scored seven total as a Black Knight and owns 12 points.Â
- Evancho also notched his second score of the season and fourth point.Â
- After tonight, the senior captain has 33 goals and 72 points in his career.Â
- Tucker DeYoung made it on the stat sheet for the first time this season with an assist on the power play score.Â
- Eric Butte was the secondary assister on the play.Â
- DeYoung's career assist count is now at eight, while Butte's is at six.Â
- Abdelnour posted his first-career assist tonight. He and Keranen are the only rookies with multiple points so far.
