WEST POINT, N.Y. - After an impressive debut to his collegiate career this past weekend, freshman Thomas Lake was named the AWPAA Athlete of the Week.
"Good tournament out of Thomas, really fought hard," said head coach Jim Poling. "He showed there's a lot of potential for him. Looking forward to seeing him have some good matches going forward."
The Davie, Fla. native went a perfect 3-0 in singles play and 5-0 in doubles action during the Binghamton Invite.
In singles, Lake defeated Enej Hasicevic of St. Thomas Aquinas in the opening round, 6-2, 6-1. He followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Michael Owens of Bucknell the next day. Lake finished his singles play with a three-set thriller on the final day -- 6-3,3-6, 10-7 -- over Ammar Fekry of NJIT.
Playing alongside fellow freshman Samuel Eden, the duo led the field with a perfect record in doubles over the three days.
The men's tennis team hit the road this weekend for their next fall event, as the Black Knights travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Purdue Invitational Oct. 4-6.
