Army Falls in High-Scoring Affair to Bonnies

WEST POINT, N.Y. – In a high-scoring non-league affair, the Army West Point men's soccer team fell, 3-2, to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday night at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
The Black Knights (2-6-3, 0-3-2 Patriot League) and Bonnies (3-9-0, 0-5-0 Atlantic 10) combined for four first-half scores, but it was a strike early in the second stanza by St. Bonaventure that turned out to be the difference.
The two sides combined for 25 shots, with Army holding a convincing 17-8 advantage. The Black Knights also generated 10 corners, compared to the Bonnies' four. Cooper Warren and Carter Kowalewski were the two goal scorers for Army on the night.

- Kowalewski notched his first score of the season.
- Jake Burgess and D'Anthony Brown each tallied their first collegiate points on their first career assists.
- Keenan O'Shea recorded an assist.
- The senior took sole possession of 10th in all-time points with 55.
- He is now tied for 10th all-time in assists with David Yu '04, Chip Ciupak '73 and Doug Fitzgerald '68.
- O'Shea is the first Cadet since Yu to reach that milestone.
- Army tied a season-high in goals scored in a game.
- Eight of the Black Knights' 17 shots were placed on goal.
- O'Shea and Oscar Pereira tied for the team lead with four shots apiece.
- The Cadets totaled double-digit shots for the ninth outing this year.
- Army has now outshot the opposition in eight contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 10th minute, an O'Shea shot was blocked and ricocheted to the foot of Warren. The rookie reared back and put the ball into the back of the net give Army an early 1-0 advantage.
- Eight minutes later, the Bonnies had a similar instance occur when a Jacob Dyck shot was blocked, and Julius Stefansson got the rebound and scored to make it a 1-1 game.
- In the 36th minute, Shea Currey sent a ball into the box off a corner and Isaac Boamah was on the receiving end, coming up with the goal to help the Bonnies go ahead 2-1.
- The Black Knights had one final charge in them before the half came to an end. Brown sent a ball down the right side of the field, where Burgess got a touch on it before crossing it into the box to set up Kowalewski for the game-tying goal.
- It remained a tie game until the 58th minute when Peter Massaquio scored what turned out to be the game-winner off a feed from Cuneyt Vardar for St. Bonaventure.
