Army Comes Up Short Against Colgate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team dropped a 70-58 decision to Colgate on Wednesday at Christl Arena in Patriot League action.
The Black Knights were led by Madison Hovren with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Lindsey Scamman added a career high 13 points and five rebounds. Army struggled hanging onto the ball as Colgate forced 21 turnovers that turned into 16 points.
Colgate saw four players reach double figures with Tegan Graham scoring 17 points, while Nia Ahart recorded 15. Both Graham and Ahart hit three shots from distance as the Raiders were 9-of-21 from three. Mylah Chandler narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- Colgate took advantage of a cold start by the Black Knights and led 13-2 midway through the first. Ahart and Chandler led the way with seven and six points, respectively.
- Army had a short 7-2 run late in the quarter to get it back to an eight-point game at the end of the quarter at 17-9. Hovren had four of the seven points during the run, while Kate Murray added a jumper.
- The Black Knights inched closer in the first couple of minutes thanks a 3-pointer from Morgann Yancey and four quick points from Hovren and Colgate led 21-16 at the 7:28 mark of the frame.
- Army chipped away at the Colgate lead and had it down to three points at 31-28 with three minutes remaining in the second. Hovren had 14 points in the first half to lead Army, but the Raiders fired back to score the final six points of the second quarter and had a 37-28 lead at the half.
- The Black Knights cut the Colgate lead to seven at 39-32 with 8:21 on the clock in the third. The Raiders answered with a 16-2 run and had their largest lead of the game at 21 points with the score at 55-34 with 2:10 left in the frame.
- Army closed the gap with five-straight points to head into the fourth down 55-39.
- The Black Knights couldn't recover from that 16-2 run and got it down to a 12-point deficit with the final six points and the Raiders won 70-58.
