Army Drops League Game at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross opened up a 10-point lead in the third quarter against Army and the Black Knights ended up falling to the Crusaders, 58-39, on Wednesday night in Patriot League women's basketball action.
Madison Hovren led the way with 12 points and 20 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the year and she is now fourth all-time in scoring at Army with 1,475 points in her career. Rookies Sarah Bohn and Lindsey Scamman added eight points each, while Kate Murray had seven points and seven boards in the loss.
Holy Cross had two player in double figures. Jenay Faulkner led the team with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while Megan Swords contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Army held Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Lauren Manis to 3-of-12 shooting and eight points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Crusaders jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first five minutes and Faulkner had six of the first 10 points for the home team, while Lindsey Scamman banked in a three for Army's lone points in the early part of the first quarter.
- Army answered the early advantage by the Crusaders with an 8-0 run to end the quarter and had an 11-10 lead. The Black Knights held the home team scoreless in the final 5:16 of the frame and Hovren had four of the eight points for Army during the run.
- The teams played evenly throughout the quarter in a see-saw battle until Kathryn Pedi reached over Jess Lewis along the sideline to gain possession of the ball in the final second. She threw up a three from the wing and banked off the glass to give Holy Cross the 28-25 advantage at the half.
- The Black Knights were led by Hovren's seven points and 12 boards at the half, while Kate Murray chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
- Holy Cross keep the run going in the beginning of the quarter with the first seven points to make its run at 10-0 after Pedi's three to end the half. The Crusaders led 35-25 after LaBarbera hit a three with 7:56 on the clock.
- Army cut into the lead with Bohn hitting her second 3-pointer and it was sliced to six points at 38-32 after a jumper from Hovren with 5:46 remaining in the frame.
- The Crusaders ended up outscoring Army 18-7 in the quarter and took a 46-32 advantage into the final quarter.
- Army lost its scoring touch in the fourth quarter and couldn't recover from a second half blitz by the Crusaders and fell, 58-39.
