Wineinger and Hallstead Receive League Recognition
January 22, 2019 | Women's Swimming and Diving
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Kara Wineinger and Serica Hallstead both received Patriot League weekly honors after helping the Army West Point women's swimming and diving team go a perfect 3-0 this past weekend in Fairfax, Va.
Wineinger garnered her second league accolade of the season after winning the 100 and 200 breast on Saturday against American, George Mason and Old Dominion. She got her afternoon started by swimming the second leg of the 200 medley relay squad that bested the competition after posting a time of 1:45.53. The senior then won the 100 breast at 1:03.98, before going on to claim the top spot in the 200 breast once she touched the wall at 2:20.26.
"Kara epitomizes what we strive for in our program," head coach Mickey Wender said. "She's tough, selfless, and a great competitor. She's a leader in the corps and in the classroom, carrying an impressive 3.9 cumulative grade-point average. As a firstie, Kara spearheads our team's academic mentorship program, which has been transformative in raising our team GPA. As an athlete, she has a knack for getting her hand of the wall first. You really can't ask for more."
Hallstead continued her streak of being named the league's female diver of the week as the junior has collected the honor for the third time this season. On the 3-meter, she scored over 32 points higher than the second place competitor, tallying a score of 266.10. The Canandaigua, N.Y., native then won on the 1-meter with a total of 275.60, 24 points better than the second-place diver.
"Serica is just a true competitor," head diving coach Chris Waters said. "She pushes herself daily in the workouts, making the changes necessary to improve her dives and trusts that work on meet days. It's going to be an exciting postseason for her in February and March."
The Black Knights will return to action on Feb. 2 to compete at the Bison Invitational hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa.
