January 12, 2019 | Rifle
WEST POINT - For the first time in two months, the Army West Point rifle team was back in action on Saturday.Â
The team opened it's winter slate with a narrow loss to ninth-ranked Nebraska, 4660-4652.Â
"The 4652 we shot is a little low. I would have liked to have seen higher," head coach Web Wright said. "We learned some things and will start getting ready for the match against Akron in two weeks."Â
The Black Knights were led by senior co-captain Payne Nunn, who had the matches second highest aggregate score (1168), and freshman Lauren McMahan, who posted the top air rifle score in the match (590).Â
"We had a couple of personal records today," Wright said. "Benjamin Davis shot a 575 in smallbore. In air rifle, Aaron Flowers shot a 587 an Nicholas Cheshire shot a 583. Those are commendable scores from some of the younger members of the team. I think that highlights the potential we have."Â
