Seniors Lead Charge, Force Tie with Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS – Trailing 2-0 after the second period, the Army West Point hockey team rallied back to force a tie with service academy rival Air Force on the road Friday night.

Seniors Tipper Higgins and Ian Mansfield led the charge with two goals in a four-minute span to pick up a critical point for Atlantic Hockey standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons were able to take a 2-0 lead in the second period off two rebounded shots.
- Air Force's first goal came on the power play 3:13 into the stanza. Goal two was with 12:01 on the clock.
- Army came out hot in the third period with two even-strength goals in a four-minute span.
- Andrew Quetell dished the puck to the slot for Higgins who put it home while getting tripped up in front of the net.
- The next goal came in transition when John Laurito and Kevin Dineen worked the puck to the right circle finding Ian Mansfield.
- Mansfield deked the Falcon defender and scored on Billy Christopoulos stick side high.
- The tie remained and the teams ended the game in a draw after a scoreless overtime period.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Seniors Higgins and Mansfield led the charge for Army scoring its two goals in the third period.
- Higgins netted his third of the year and 10th in his career tonight.
- In his 100th career game, Mansfield registered goal number 17. It was his third score this year.
- Jared Dempsey posted 32 saves, the most for the sophomore netminder since setting his career-high of 39 on Nov. 19.
- Mason Krueger notched assist number six this year and ninth total in an Army sweater.
- Quetell contributed his third helper of the season, while Laurito had assist number two.
- Dineen recorded his fourth assist and fifth point of the year.
